I suspect it is our Augustinian heritage which gets in the way. Ironically, Luther himself seems to have no trouble talking and writing about sex. That makes us analogous to the Victorians, who were far more "Victorian" than Queen Victoria. By the way, the Song of Solomon almost didn't make it into the Old Testament.
